UNQUALIFIED EQUALS GOOD!

Last night the Parish Council formally acknowledged (as it has to by law every year about now) that the External Auditor has had a good look at our accounts and passed them “without qualification”. Incidentally, that doesn’t mean that the Auditor was unqualified. Far from it! It means that the Auditor sees no need to raise any issues with the accounts.

Clearly good news and this has been the case for a number of years. Indeed, if one wishes to become or maintain Quality Council status the accounts have to be done properly in accordance with national guidelines.

Although the accounts are, once again, acceptable to the Auditor, I’m always pleased when we get a clean bill of health. Apart from the fact that it means no reworking on old figures it assures all the residents (who actually pay the precept) that their money has been spent and accounted responsibly.

So that’s last year done and dusted. But it doesn’t stop there. Shortly we will be thinking about the next financial year’s budget and precept. The Council usually decides that in January and the whole thing starts all over again.

Boring I know! But just indulge me a little smile when a lack of qualification means happiness!
