FOOTBALL PITCHES

We’ve had a bumpy time recently with football pitches. The pitches are maintained by Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council and they’ve decided to hike their charges. All very last minute but they are in a tough financial position like the rest of us.

This should not have presented a problem because our pitches have not been used by local amateur teams for a number of years. There are a number of reasons for this situation but suddenly it’s all change. And with change comes problems.

Two local clubs want to use the same pitch for the forthcoming season. Although, their actual times on the pitch do not overlap, this duplication will present some difficulties. For example, a number of health and safety issues have been presented and there is serious concern whether the pitch will be able to cope with extensive play over the season. One club is happy to share; the other less so.

The allocation of this pitch is like waiting for a bus. For ages, nothing and then suddenly two teams want it. Local councillors are meeting the team managers soon in order to achieve some sort of solution.

 It’s times like this that I’m glad that I don’t have to decide….
